This summer, the children will have the castle island as their playground, with quests throughout the entire castle grounds! An immersive experience focused on the life of Gustav Vasa – with a chance to meet the King himself!
Because of the Corona pandemic, Kalmar Castle has created a brand new activity for families for the summer of 2020, as the Children’s Castle takes a break. The Vasa Challange is a playful activity for the whole family to enjoy together. It centers on a number of events in the life of Gustav Vasa, making it easy for everyone to truly enter into history.
In the outer courtyard, visitors will be met by either Gustav Vasa himself, Princess Cecilia Vasa or the mischievous jester. Throughout the courtyard are historical areas for play, based on nine events from the life of Gustav Vasa. Here, our young visitors can try to hit the mark with letters, walk on stilts from Sälen to Mora, and try to reach the “shore” without touching the ground. In addition, there are tricky tasks which they can either solve themselves, or work out with a little help from a parent. Two characters will be in place each day, to help out.
The tasks will be of varying difficulty, to suit both the younger and older children. Perhaps a little help from a parent will be needed at times – the whole family is invited to play!
All stations are located outdoors, and placed well apart in the castle grounds. The stations are independent and can be visited in any order, to facilitate distancing and to prevent queuing and crowding.
Neither visitors nor staff who display any symptoms, such as coughing, fever or a runny nose, should come to Kalmar Castle. Please read more about our current routines here.
All the activities of the Vasa Challange are included in your entrance ticket. Read more about our entrance fees here.
